I used to work nights all by my lonesome and had tons of time to put odd things together.
My company got rid of all the other guys in my department and now it's me running the show all day.
So very little time now for thinking of other things.
I'm having to learn to spend my time far more wisely.
It'll be a while before things get settled down, but I look foreward the little escape I have planned come October.
Some buddies and I are gonna throw down some barbecue, music, a little role-playing(full-blown pirate-style treasure hunt) and just an insane amount of drinking.
Can't wait. :)

Thanks for adding me to your Deviantwatch list. Love your work-wow! Love your avatar me droogie. Andy said to watch for you here. I'm amazed at the quality of the work that you turned out and just for the love of it. Maybe we'll meet for real before too long.

Thank you kind sir. :)
Andy showed me your Azuzu idol and told me about your work in plastilina and hydrocal/hydrostone.
VERY nice work!
I'm tempted to try and find some to experiment with ornamentation on my chests.(I was gonna try mineral inlay as well)
It's always a pleasure to meet a fellow craftsman and swap/blatently steal ideas. :)

I certainly appreciate any input from you. I have visions of one your chests done up w/octopodal and/or sea monster motifs or maybe something with occult symbols and crowned by a leering death head. I have tried inlaying some of my soapstone carvings into small pieces of wood w/mixed results.Again, thanks for your input. Incidentally, it's PAZUZU.Until next time.

I would love to buy one from you - is this possible?
Reply
:iconcraftsman107:
Yes, I can make them to order.
They aren't cheap though.
Pieces like the cedar pirate chest with the handmade brass key and lock set would run you about $500 because it takes me a month to make and costs about $100 in materials before I even get started.
On the plus side though, you get a very durable iron-bound mortised solid wood chest with a fully functional hand made warded lock and solid brass key all of which(with a little oil every year or two) will outlive the sh#t out of you AND your kids.

Still interested?

can we buy the palns for the wells fargo strong box from you for my dad to make one?

I'm afraid that this was the only box I never wrote specs for.
I was re-engineering it from the two photos I had from the internet:

All I can recommend is going by the pics.
The thing is made of 3/4" hickory and measures 10"x12"x20"
The top and bottom are framed with an oak strip for durability.(probably 3/4"x 1" with mortised slots for the hickory to fit in)
I forged all the hardware by hand, so you'll need to cut the frame and hinges out of 1/8" flat stock and the corner braces and handles from 18 gauge. (It's pretty easy with an edge grinder, cut-off wheels, files and little practice)
I welded it all together with a little wire-feed welder.
You can get the lock(railroad-style padlock) at an antique store or online:

I made mine to better match the original. -and to show off :)
Feel free to copy. (I did.)
If you run into any snags, let me know and I'll help as best I can.
